How does Petaluma’s environmental impact compare to other brands?Updated 6 months ago
We commissioned a life cycle assessment to objectively measure our own environmental impact and compare it to industry data about the “average” dog food.
The analysis found that our diet - the Roasted Peanut Butter & Sweet Potato Flavor - produced 75% fewer greenhouse gas emissions, used 54% less freshwater, and resulted in 89% less land use impact than a traditional dog diet.
The analysis considered the resource consumption involved in growing and manufacturing each ingredient used in the Petaluma and average dog diet as well as the energy and resources used to manufacture, package, and transport the food. We relied on trusted third-party data sources like the greenhouse gas database from the University of Michigan Center for Sustainable Systems.
