How digestible is your food?Updated 6 months ago

Independent laboratory testing at a university has confirmed what we already knew: our food is highly digestible, with dogs able to absorb over 80% of all nutrients. Even more impressive, the protein digestibility exceeds 92% - matching or surpassing many formulas that use high-quality animal protein, and outperforming many animal by-products. This means your dog can effectively obtain all the protein and essential amino acids they need from our plant-based diet. See our in vitro digestibility test results here

While digestibility is important, it's just one piece of the nutritional puzzle. In commercial pet foods made with quality ingredients - whether plant or animal-based - digestibility isn't typically a concern. The difference between 90% and 95% digestibility, for instance, has no meaningful impact on your dog's health. What matters most is ensuring your dog receives adequate, balanced nutrition from digestible sources.

You might notice that higher fiber levels can lower overall digestibility scores. That's actually by design - dietary fiber isn't meant to be digested! Instead, it plays a vital role in your dog's digestive and metabolic health. This is why we include whole food sources of fiber in our formulas.

The main nutritional challenge facing dogs today is obesity - a condition where too much energy is absorbed compared to energy use, rather than a lack of available nutrients in food. Very high digestibility alone isn't a good indicator of diet quality. Some extremely processed ingredients are highly digestible precisely because they've stripped away the beneficial dietary fiber from grains and legumes. What truly matters is providing dogs with adequate and balanced protein from digestible sources while maintaining the benefits of dietary fiber from whole foods. We've validated through laboratory testing that our formula delivers on both counts - offering significant amounts of digestible protein while preserving the natural fiber content that supports your dog's health.
